Free Agent S T.J. McDonald Suspended Eight Games, Visited With Dolphins

Field Yates of ESPN is reporting that free agent S T.J. McDonald has been suspended for the first 8 games of the 2017 season.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that this suspension stems from McDonald’s DUI from last May that included drug charges.
  • According to Yates, McDonald took his first free agent visit to Miami and met with the Dolphins on Wednesday.

This may explain why he’s still available at this point in the free agent market.

McDonald, 26, is a former third-round pick of the Rams back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.926 million rookie contract and is currently testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

In 2016, McDonald appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 64 tackles, one sack, two interceptions and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the No. 58 overall safety out of 89 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
