Free Agent TE Gary Barnidge Has Heard From Multiple Teams Including Jaguars & Broncos

Free agent TE Gary Barnidge mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he visited with the Bills and has heard from multiple teams including the Jaguars and some of his old coaches with the Broncos since becoming available.

While Barnidge would like to find an opportunity to be a No. 1 tight end, he made it clear that he’s willing to work with young players.

I would love to the No. 1 guy in the tight end room but I have no problem being a mentor either,” Barnidge said, via Sirius XM NFL Radio.

The market has been slow-moving for Barnidge, despite the fact that he’s among the best available players. Barnidge explained that teams would like to see what they have at the position during OTAs and minicamp before considering other options.

A lot of teams are waiting to see what they got in OTA’s and minicamp,” Barnidge said, via Sirius XM NFL Radio. “I have no problem waiting and it’s not an issue.

Barnidge visited with the Bills a few weeks ago but left the visit without an agreement.

Barnidge, 31, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2008. He spent five years in Carolina before signing a three-year contract with the Browns.

The Browns surprisingly cut Barnidge loose last week a day after they traded up in round one to gaet Miami TE David Njoku.

In 2016, Barnidge appeared in all 16 games and caught 55 passes for 612 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 25 tight end out of 63 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
