Free Agent TE Jermaine Gresham Visiting Cardinals, Has Interest From Saints & Raiders

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that free agent TE Jermaine Gresham‘s visit with the Cardinals will take place on Tuesday.

  • According to Rapoport, Gresham has interest from the Saints and Raiders among others.

It appears as though Gresham is one of the few free agents that could have a decent market in the days leading up to the start of training camp.

The Raiders nearly signed Gresham to a contract several months ago before he was diagnosed with a herniated disc.

We’ll have more regarding who could be interested in Gresham as the news is available.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that free agent TE Jermaine Gresham will visit with the Cardinals this week.

  • According to Schefter, Gresham already has a contract offer from the Saints.
  • Sources tell Schefter that Gresham has other visits planned the next two weeks and is expected to sign with a team before camp.
  • Schefter adds that Gresham is now the NFL’s most “sought-after available tight end.”

The Saints previously hosted Gresham for a visit, so he was clearly on their radar.

He’s a player we were obviously well aware of coming out of Oklahoma five years ago,” Payton said at the time, via the New Orleans Advocate. “He’s recovering from an offseason surgery, and I thought the visit went pretty good. It would be about the fit. I think there’s a fit for us if it works out, and he’s a guy that we’ve studied quite a bit now in the last couple of months.”

As for the Cardinals, they could really use some depth at tight end, as their depth chart currently consists of Darren FellsTroy Niklas, Gerald Christian, Ted Bolser, and Ifeanyi Momah.

Gresham, 27, is clearly one of the best available free agents. However, he diagnosed with a herniated disc a few months ago and wound up undergoing surgery, which took him out of the running for a number of jobs around the league.

The Browns, Raiders and Bills were all linked to Gresham before the injury was discovered.

In 2014, Gresham caught 62 passes for 460 yards receiving and five touchdowns over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.

We have Gresham listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 25 Best Available Free Agents list.
