Free Agent TE Jermichael Finley Has Been Medically Cleared

Blake Baratz, the agent for free agent TE Jermichael Finley, told Pro Football Talk on Thursday that Dr. Maroon has given his client full medical clearance.

  • Baratz added that Finley will visit with a team on Friday, but didn’t say who the teams was.
  • Mike Florio suggests the Patriots could have interest.
  • Finley previously met with the Seahawks and the Packers are believed to be interested as well.

Maroon is Pittsburgh Steelers neurosurgeon who performed Finley’s spinal fusion surgery several months ago.

Finley and his agent have done a good job of keeping his name floating around in the media as he tries to secure a new contract.

Reports from earlier in the week mentioned that Finley was meeting with the Packers, but Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com later reported that this was just “a formality.”

“It’s a formality, no testing,” Demovsky’s source said. “Nothing more, nothing less.”

According to Demovsky, Finley had plans to travel to Green Bay with his family, and check in with Packers team doctor Dr. Pat McKenzie and the team’s medical staff because he has not seen them recently.

The fact that Finley has received clearance should help to increase the level of interest in his services. There are still questions regarding his health moving forward, but it’s at least a positive sign.

We’ll have more regarding Finley as the news is available.
