Free Agent TE Jermichael Finley Says He Still Wants To Return To Green Bay

Free Agent TE Jermichael Finley has been outspoken about his desire to return to the Green Bay Packers.

Finley, speaking about Green Bay, said that he “very much wants to return,” adding “this is the best I’ve felt in this entire crazy process,” per Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin.

Finley also had a message for the Packers faithful, stating “Tell everybody I’m working as hard as I can to get back to Packer Nation.”

Finley has received medical clearance from at least one doctor following his spinal fusion surgery several months ago, but even though he has visited with some teams, there hasn’t been a lot of buzz regarding him in recent days.

The Patriots, Seahawks, Giants, Steelers and Raiders have all come up at different times as being potential options, but Seattle has reportedly removed themselves from the running.

The Packers have a series of options on their roster at the tight end position, though it remains a mystery who will emerge from the group.

Andrew Quarless has the most experience, hauling in 32 passes last season, but he lacks the upside of some of Green Bay’s other options.  Richard Rodgers, a third-round pick out of Cal, has reportedly looked great without pads, and has exceptional hands.  The list of rookie tight ends that have had a major impact however, is short.

Brandon Bostick, Ryan Taylor, and even undrafted free agent Colt Lyerla will have a shot to make the team and earn snaps.

Green Bay seems to have committed to some younger players at the position, but if Finley continues to progress medically, it seems likely that they would welcome him back.
