Free agent WR James Jones tells Sirius XM NFL Radio that he’s still hoping to secure another opportunity with an NFL team, but would prefer to remain in the Bay Area.
“It’s just a waiting game for me right now,” Jones said. “I just want to play football and stay home in the Bay Area.”
Jones admitted that he’s shocked to be in the position he’s currently in after a productive 2015 season.
“It is a little shocking to me that I’m not on a ball club after the 2015 season,” Jones said, per Sirius XM NFL Radio. “I feel like I can still help a team.”
Jones, 32, is a former third-round pick of the Packers back in 2007. He spent seven years with the Packers before signing on with the Raiders as an unrestricted free agent in 2014.
Jones later returned to the Packers after they lost Jordy Nelson for the season last year and went on to produce a productive season for Green Bay.
The Chargers signed him to a contract earlier in the month, but wound up cutting him loose a few days ago.
In 2015, Jones appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and recorded 50 receptions for 890 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 45 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.
