Free Agent WR James Jones Surprised He’s Unsigned, Would “Love” To Play For 49ers

Free agent WR James Jones mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he’s surprised he’s still without a job at this point in the year, considering that he’s coming off of a productive 2015 season for the Packers.

Jones is currently training in the Bay Area right now and would love to an opportunity to stay home and play for the 49ers. However, he admitted that he would play for any team if an opportunity were available.

According to Jones, he’s received calls from prospects teams, but there’s been no deal up to this point. Even so, Jones said he’s ready to play in 2016.

In regards to returning to the Packers, Jones said that he thought they may bring him back for another season, but it’s clear they’re focused on their younger options at receiver.

Jones, 32, hasn’t found any reported interest since free agency got underway several months ago. He’s coming off of a productive season for the Packers and is among the best receivers still available. Although, it appears as though he could be forced to once again wait until later this summer to secure another opportunity.

In 2015, Jones appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and recorded 50 receptions for 890 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 45 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.
