Free Agents LBs Marvin Mitchell, James Anderson & Stevenson Sylvester Work Out For Patriots

Howard Balzer of Lockerdome.com reports that the Patriots brought in a number of free agent linebackers for workouts including: Marvin Mitchell, James Anderson and Stevenson Sylvester.

Mitchell, 29, hasn’t found any interest as a free agent this offseason. He spent the past two years with the Vikings, but clearly wasn’t in their long-term plans.

He appeared in all 16 games for Minnesota and totaled 41 tackles, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed.

Anderson, 30, signed with the Bears last year after spending seven years in Carolina. He too appeared in all 16 games last season and totaled 102 tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble.

However, Pro Football Focus rated him as the third worst qualifying outside linebacker in a 4-3 system. He was pretty bad when it comes to run defense, but he was actually one of the better linebackers in terms of coverage.

Sylvester, 25, has found no interest as a free agent this offseason. He has spent all four years with the Steelers, but he was limited to appearing in nine games and totaled just 12 tackles.

This is about the time of year that the Patriots begin looking at available free agents to invite to training camp, so there is a chance that one of these linebackers could be signed in the coming weeks.
