Giants Believed To Be Waiting On Vikings QBs Coach Kevin Stefanski Before Hiring New OC

Jordan Raanan of ESPN, citing multiple sources, reports that new Giants HC Pat Shurmur is waiting on Vikings QBs coach Kevin Stefanski before hiring someone for the team’s offensive coordinator vacancy.

Stefanski is being considered for the Vikings’ offensive coordinator job to replace Shurmur and would have the opportunity to call plays for Minnesota if they elevate him. However, Shurmur will call the Giants’ plays, which means the Vikings’ job could be the more appealing opportunity if available.

According to Raanan, Eagles QBs coach John DeFilippo and RBs coach Duce Staley could also be candidates for the Giants job. Although, Raanan says that Stefanski and DeFilippo are probably much more likely options for the Giants than Staley, given that Shurmur said last week that he preferred a veteran coach with experience working with quarterbacks.

Stefanski, 35, began his NFL coaching career as an operations intern with the Eagles back in 2005. He was later hired by the Vikings as an assistant to head coach a year later.

Stefanski had held a number of positions with the Vikings including TEs coach and RBs coach before he was promoted to QBs coach last year.

We’ll have more regarding the Giants’ offensive coordinator job as the news is available.
