Giants Benching RT Ereck Flowers In Favor Of Chad Wheeler

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Giants have made the decision to bench RT Ereck Flowers in favor of Chad Wheeler for Sunday’s game.

Rapoport says that New York had already been planning to give Wheeler “significant snaps” before ultimately deciding to make the switch.

The Giants were hoping that the move from left to right tackle was going to pay off for Flowers, but results have been equally disappointing for him.

Flowers, 24, is a former No. 9 overall pick out of Miami by the Giants in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of a four-year $14.391 million rookie contract that is fully guaranteed is set to earn a base salary of $2,397,522 for 2018.

The Giants declined to pick up Flowers’ fifth-year option back in May.

In 2018, Flowers has appeared in two games for the Giants and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 60 overall tackle out of 68 qualifiers.
