Giants CB Terrell Thomas Gets Great News Regarding His Knee

Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Giants CB Terrell Thomas‘ injury has been diagnosed as a “stretched” and “aggravated” ACL.

Rather than being a season-ending injury, Thomas may only miss 3-5 weeks as he recovers from another knee injury.

This is incredible news for Thomas, as another ACL tear could have ended his career. Now there’s a chance that he could be ready to return to action a few weeks into the regular season.

Head coach Tom Coughlin mentioned that they’ll proceed with caution in the time being, but at least he should be available in the not too distant future.

ESPN’s  Adam Schefter reports that doctors now believe Giants CB Terrell Thomas‘ ACL may not be torn, like initially believed. Schefter adds that’s there actually a chance that he could be available to play at some point this season.

Thomas is still expected to meet with Dr. James Andrews to determine his options. If everything goes well, Thomas may still have an opportunity to have a productive career in the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Giants CB Terrell Thomas is expected to be out for the entire 2012 season.

“It looks like he’s going to need surgery,” Schefter said. “It looks like he’s going to be out for the year.

This is terrible news for Thomas who wound up missing the entire 2011 season after suffering the exact same injury. The Giants will have to, once again, rely on their depth to overcome the loss of Thomas. It’s hard not to feel bad for this kid.

Ralph Vacciano of the New York Daily News mentions that CB Terrell Thomas “has at the very least a partial tear of his ACL,” and that “doctors will know more after exploratory surgery.”

If Thomas tore his ACL it’s very likely that he will miss the entire season for the Giants.

Vacciano also says that “it’s safe to assume” that CB Prince Amukamara will get the first chance to start in the absence of Thomas.

Eric Edholm tweets that Terrell Thomas‘ recent setback involving his surgically-repaired knee “sounds pretty bad.” His sources mentioned that it “looks bad” as of now.

—————–

Mike Garafolo reports that the New York Giants sent CB Terrell Thomas for tests on his surgically-repaired knee after it apparently swelled up after practice on Sunday.

Thomas is coming off of a pretty serious injury that cost him the entire 2011 season. That didn’t stop the Giants from signing him to a four-year worth $17.4 million, but this will be a situation that they’ll certainly monitor closely.
