Details On New York Giants DE Osi Umenyiora’s Restructured Deal

As a result of his restructured contract, New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora’s one-year contract is worth $6 million, Mike Garafolo reports on Twitter.

This sum consists of a $2 million signing bonus, $2.5 million base salary, a $250,000 reporting bonus and roster bonuses of $1.25 million.

Some much for the speculation that Giants DE Osi Umenyiora could be playing somewhere other than New York next season.

The Giants have announced that they’ve agreed to a restructured contract with Umenyiora. The terms were not disclosed, but obviously it was enough to convinced Umenyiora to sign.

Previous reports mentioned that Umenyiora had fired his agent, which could have had something to do with the lack of progress towards reaching an agreement. As soon as he was out of the picture, there was a deal in place, so take that for what you will.

Umenyiora was entering the final year of his deal, so figures to have a good shot at retiring as a New York Giant.

New York Giants DE Osi Umenyiora has been doing everything possible in an attempt to secure a long-term contract or a trade out of town, but so far, nothing has come from his efforts.

Umenyiora has instead made the decision to part ways with his agent, Tony Agnone.

“Fired is too harsh a word,” said Umenyiora, via the Newark Star-Ledger. “I just came to the conclusion that this situation I don’t think he can help me with.”

Umenyiora supposedly fired Agnone months ago, but wound up keeping him in the hopes that he could resolve his contract dispute. Unfortunately for him, that didn’t prove to be the case, so now Umenyiora will have to plot his next course of action.

“I have no agent currently,” he wrote, “and I’m not really looking for one.”

The Giants have reportedly offered him around $5 million guaranteed, which is a far cry from the kind of money that Umenyiora is looking for, so the best course of action, could be to focus on getting a trade down in future. While that makes sense from a third-party perspective, the Giants really hold all of the leverage in this situation, considering that Umenyiora is under contract for the upcoming season.
