Giants DE Osi Umenyiora’s Contract to Void on Thursday

Giants’ defensive end Osi Umenyiora will become an unrestricted free agent as of 4:01 P.M. on Thursday, according to Jenny Vrentas.

“I just feel fortunate to be able to play 10 years in New York in this city and that organization,” said Umenyiora while appearing on “The Michael Kay Show” back in early January. “It was a great run, a great ride. I think now is probably time to move on.”

The pass rusher should draw some legitimate interest from 4-3 teams in need of a pass rusher, but it’s doubtful that he would be asked to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.

It seems likely that the Giants will allow him to depart during free agency as he’s been relegated to a limited in recent years in large part due to the play of Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck.

We have him listed as the No. 39 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
