Giants Have Expressed Interest In Brown LT Joe Thomas

Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that the Giants have expressed interest in Browns LT Joe Thomas. However, Raanan mentions that a trade will only happen if the Browns are really serious about moving him in the coming days.

According to Raanan, that doesn’t appear to be the case right now and the Giants would likely have to blow the Browns away in order for a deal to get done before Tuesday’s deadline.

Raanan points out that making a serious mid-season trade for a guy like Thomas would make sense for a true Super Bowl contender but the Giants don’t appear to be on the verge of pushing for a title this year.

There are other offensive tackle options available for the Giants to consider such as 49ers LT Joe Staley, so we’ll have to see if talks pick up in the coming days.

Thomas has been linked to the Seahawks, Cardinals, Broncos, Vikings and Colts in recent weeks.

Thomas, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2007. He’s currently in the sixth year of his eight-year, $92 million contract that included $44 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $8.3 million for the 2016 season.

This season, Thomas has appeared in seven games for the Browns and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 8 offensive tackle out of 75 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a potential trade involving Thomas as the news is available.
