  • Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports that the Giants’ head-coaching job is down to Vikings OC Pat Shurmur and Patriots OC Josh McDaniels.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that if the Vikings lose today, the Giants could move quickly to hire Pat Shurmur as their next head coach. According to Rapoport, Shurmur has his staff ready to go. However, Panthers DC Steve Wilks remains a “strong candidate” for the Giants’ job as well.
  • Ian Rapoport says that there are four clear candidates for the Giants’ head coach job: Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia, Steve Wilks and Pat Shurmur. As of now, Rapoport reports that no one is considered the favorite.
  • According to Tom Rock and Bob Glauber of Newsday, the Giants have a fourth “sleeper” candidate for the head-coaching job, depending on what happens with their top-three candidates, which are believed to be Matt Patricia, Josh McDaniels and Pat Shurmur. However, the report says that it’s unclear who this mystery candidate is. Some potential contingency options for New York could include Panthers DC Steve Wilks and Eagles DC Jim Schwartz.
  • Jordan Raanan of ESPN, citing multiple sources, reports that Patriots DC Matt Patricia is the favorite to be hired as the next head coach of the Giants. According to Raanan, New York is impressed with Patricia’s smarts and view him as the ultimate Bill Belichick protégé. Even so, Raanan says it could still come down to whether Patricia chooses the Giants over the Lions, who reportedly have him as their top choice as well.
  • Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports that the Giants are down to three candidates for their head-coaching job: Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia and Pat Shurmur. A source with knowledge of the Giants’ thinking tells Schwartz that Panthers DC Steve Wilks did not make the cut for the Giants’ job along with Steve Spagnuolo and Eric Studesville.
  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports Vikings OC Pat Shurmur is in “good standing” in regards to the Giants’ HC search and more well thought of inside the organization than those on the outside may believe.
  • According to Jordan Raanan, Patriots DC Matt Patricia is in the mix for the Giants’ HC job and near the top of list. However, Raanan says that it would also be premature to rule out Steve Wilks, Pat Shurmur and even Josh McDaniels while Steve Spagnuolo and Eric Studesville are considered long shots for the job. Overall, Raanan says that Wilks and appeared to be the two favorites in New York. Although, multiple league sources have told him that they believe Patricia ultimately ends up with the Lions.
  • Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Giants are “not locked into” Patriots HC Matt Patricia at this time, even though reports from this morning said that “all signings point to” him getting the job. According to Garafolo, New York plans to discuss which candidates stood out during the first round of interviews and it’s possible Patricia could be near or at the top of the list, but they’re not ready to lock him up right now. Garafolo adds that if the Giants were close to hiring Patricia right now, it’s likely the Lions would be shifting gears in their search to another candidate.
  • Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports that “all signings point to” Patriots DC Matt Patricia being the next head coach of the Giants.
  • Peter King hears that Patriots DC Matt Patricia is the Lions’ choice for their next head coach over Texans DC Matt Vrabel. However, if the Giants are ready to hire Patricia, King says New York would get the nod over Detroit and the Lions could end up going with Vrabel.The New York Giants announced Tuesday that they’ve completed their interview with Panthers DC Steve Wilks for their head coach job.
  • Mike Garafolo reports that the New York Giants reportedly have chairman Steve Tisch on hand for Tuesday’s interview with Panthers DC Steve Wilks. Garafolo mentions that this doesn’t necessarily mean that Wilks is the favorite, but he’s the only candidate up to this point who has a shot to impress all parties. Ian Rapoport adds that with the Cardinals’ interview looming, the Giants have put pieces in place to close the deal today if they choose to.
  • Mike Garafolo reports that Panthers DC Steve Wilks will meet with the Giants first before any of the other teams with interest in him. According to Garafolo, it’s likely Wilks interview with the Giants will take place on Tuesday.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Giants are scheduled to interview former Broncos assistant HC Eric Studesville on Wednesday. Rapoport adds that New York rescheduled the meeting because of weather.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Giants plan to take Monday off from their head-coaching search.
  • According to Jason La Canfora, it’s still possible the Giants could interview other candidates who were not on their original short list. La Canfora tosses out Eagles DC Jim Schwartz and Steelers OL coach Mike Munchak as two candidates to watch for New York if they expand their list.
  • Ian Rapoport reports Panthers DC Steve Wilks likely to interview Monday for Giants’ job on Monday.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Giants did make a request to interview Eagles DC Jim Schwartz, but there currently isn’t an interview and scheduled and the two parties may not meet until Philadelphia’s season is over.

  • Dan Duggan reports that former Broncos RB coach Eric Studesville’s interview with the Giants will be postponed until early next week due to weather-related travel issues.

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that Jim Schwartz’s candidacy for the Giants’ head coaching job appears to be losing steam. Florio mentions that it’s possible that the Giants don’t feel compelled to interview Schwartz during the bey week and instead plan to wait until after the Eagles’ season is over. However, he admits that’s “highly unlikely.” Florio adds that it’s also possible that GM Dave Gettleman isn’t interested in Schwartz or the team has been scared off after word started leaking that he could be the guy to watch.

  • According to Ben Volin, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels will interview for the Giants and Bears on Friday.

  • According to Jason La Canfora, a darkhorse candidate for the Giants’ head-coaching job is former Titans HC Mike Munchak. Other names worth watching for the Giants, according to La Canfora, include Panthers DC Steve Wilks, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, Eagles DC Jim Schwartz and Vikings OC Pat Shurmur.

  • Pro Football Talk reports that there has been talk of the Giants hiring Dave Gettleman as GM and then Jim Schwartz as the team’s head coach. However, the Giants putting up 504 yards on the Eagles’ could be viewed as a concern.
  • A league source indicated to Art Stapleton of The Record that the Giants could have interest in Texans HC Bill O’Brien if he ends up being available. Stapleton confirms that Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and Panthers DC Steve Wilks are worth watching for the Giants as well.
  • According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and Panthers DC Steve Wilks are considered the “favorites” for the job.
  • Some other names worth monitoring, according to Raanan, include Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel among others.
  • Albert Breer expects the Giants to also consider Patriots DC Matt Patricia for their head-coaching vacancy.
