Giants Hosted Veteran OT Jake Long For A Visit, “No Real Rush” To Sign Him

Update:

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that free agent OT Jake Long‘s recent visit with the Giants was an introduction to the team and to check up on his rehab from a torn ACL.

According to Garafolo, the Giants are “no real rush” to sign Long to a contract right now.

This is to be expected given that Long sustained the knee injury in Week 8 of last year. There has been very little buzz surrounding him in recent months, which is likely due to the fact that his knee still isn’t 100 percent.

However, if Long continues to progress, he could end up being a priority free agent for teams in need of offensive tackle depth.

Dan Graziano of ESPN New York reports that the Giants hosted veteran OT Jake Long for a visit on Thursday.

The Giants wound up losing starting LT Will Beatty to a recent injury, which has left them with very little depth at offensive tackle.

New York has said that they believe first-round pick Ereck Flowers can eventually play left tackle in the NFL, and they even gave him some reps on the blindside this week, but it certainly can’t hurt to take a look at some available options.

Long, 30, was released by the Rams back in March in a move that cleared $8 million in cap space for St. Louis.

Despite being among the best available free agent offensive tackles, there has been very little reported interest in him since free agency got underway back in March.

It’s worth mentioning that Long is coming off of a very serious knee injury that he sustained midway through the 2014 season.

In 2014, Long was limited to appearing in seven games and playing a total of 449 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Long ultimately graded out as the No. 36 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players in 2014.

We have Long featured in our Top 25 – Best Available Free Agents list.
