Giants LB Jon Beason’s Career Likely Over

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post writes that not only is the season over Giants veteran LB Jon Beason, but it’s also likely that his career could be over.

Yesterday, New York placed Beason on season-ending injured reserve with a knee and ankle injuries, but this is the second straight year that his season has been cut short due to injury.

On top of that, the Giants could free up a sizable amount of cap space by parting ways with him in 2016, which was made possible after they reworked his contract several months ago.

Beason, 30, signed a three-year, $16.8 million contract that includes $6.03 million guaranteed. He stands to make $1.9 million and $2.8 million over the remainder of the deal.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Beason would free up $5.1 million cap space while creating $1,466,668 in dead money for the 2016 season.

Beason’s 2015 season ended with him recording 18 tackles over the course of five games.
