Giants Were Looking For Mid-Round Pick In Trade For OT Ereck Flowers

Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that the Giants were hoping to trade OT Ereck Flowers during the draft for a mid-round pick, but no teams were willing to offer that much for the former first-round pick.

Flowers has decided to workout away from the team and it remains to be seen what the Giants will do with him now that the draft has come and gone.

Raanan says that there’s a belief among Flowers’ teammates that he shut it down early last season. Flowers really struggled last year and will clearly have to earn a roster spot this summer, assuming he gets the chance and reports to the team.

The Giants still need to decide whether or not they’ll pick up his fifth-year option before the upcoming deadline, but the expectation is that they’ll decline it.

Flowers, 23, is a former No. 9 overall pick out of Miami by the Giants in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of a four-year $14.391 million rookie contract that is fully guaranteed is set to earn a base salary of $2,397,522 for 2018.

In 2017, Flowers appeared in 15 games for the Giants and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 54 overall tackle out of 81 qualifiers.

We’ll have more regarding Flowers as the news is available.
