Giants Lose Rookie DT Marvin Austin

The injuries on the defensive side of the ball are piling up for the New York Giants as rookie DT Marvin Austin has torn his left pectoral muscle and is likely to miss the remainder the entire 2011 season.

New York was hoping that Austin would help them fill the hole left by the departure of Barry Cofield but obivously they’ll have to wait to next season to see him in meaningful game action. One thing to keep in mind is that Austin didn’t play the entire 2010 season for North Carolina as he was suspended so missing another season will keep him out football for basically two years.

The Giants addressed their defensive line today by signing  DT Jimmy Kennedy, per Ralph Vacchiano of the N.Y. Daily News.
