Giants Lose WR Victor Cruz To A Torn Patellar Tendon

Giants WR Victor Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon in his right knee during Sunday night’s game against the Eagles, according to Michelle Tafoya.

It was clear that Cruz sustained a major knee injury given that he was screaming in pain on the field and was sobbing as he was carted off.

“I can’t remember the last time I covered an injury where I heard so much screaming in pain and agony,” Tafoya said of Cruz’s injury.

Former Chargers team doctor David Chao mentions that a torn patellar tendon will end his 2014 season. However, he will be fully recovered in time for 2015.

Cruz, 27, is in second year of his six-year, $45.879 million contract that includes $15.625 million guaranteed. His base salary for the 2014 season is $3.999 million, but will increase to $6.15 million next year.

Assuming this is it for Cruz in 2014, he will have finished the year with 23 receptions for 334 yards receiving and a touchdown over the course of six games.
