Giants Could Move Quickly To Hire Vikings OC Pat Shurmur

With reports that the Lions are likely to hire Patriots DC Matt Patricia and OC Josh McDaniels reportedly viewed as the “clear favorite” for the Colts’ job, Ian Rapoport reports that if the Vikings lose today, the Giants could move quickly to hire Pat Shurmur as their next head coach.

According to Rapoport, Shurmur has his staff ready to go. However, Panthers DC Steve Wilks remains a “strong candidate” for the Giants’ job as well.

The Cardinals are also interested in Shurmur, which is likely the reason that the Giants are willing to move quickly to get him under contract as soon as he’s available.

Shurmur, 52, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles in 1999 as their tight ends and offensive line coach. He was promoted to QBs coach before departing to become the offensive coordinator of the Rams in 2009.

Mike Holmgren hired Shurmur as the Browns head coach a few years later but he lasted just two seasons in Cleveland. After a few years with the Eagles, the Vikings hired him as their tight ends coach in 2016 and he worked his way up to offensive coordinator.

We’ll have more regarding Shurmur and the Giants as the news is available.
