Giants Notes: Odell Beckham Jr, Eli Manning, Saquon Barkley

Odell Beckham Jr

Giants owner John Mara said Tuesday that he thinks WR Odell Beckham Jr “needs to do a little more playing and a little less talking.

I wish he would create the headlines by his play on the field as opposed to what he says and what he does off the field,” Mara said, via ESPN.com. “I think he needs to do a little more playing and a little less talking.

Eli Manning

Regarding QB Eli Manning, Mara said that the team needs to play better as a whole.

“I think when you’re 1-5, it generally means that everybody needs to play better, so he’s not alone,” Mara said. “I still … we still believe in him, but everybody needs to do their jobs in order for us to be successful, and right now that’s not happening. I know he’s the punching bag right now, but a lot of guys need to play better when you’re 1-5.

Saquon Barkley

  • As for the criticism of the team’s decision to use the No. 2 overall pick on RB Saquon Barkley as opposed to a quarterback, Mara said: “We went with the best player in the draft. I still believe he was the best player in the draft.” (Judy Battista)

Giants

  • Mara added that he is “very confident” they have the right guys in the building — meaning Pat Shurmur and Dave Gettleman — to get things fixed. Although, Mara admitted that is not sure it’s going to be a quick fix. (Judy Battista)
  • Giants fifth-round LB R.J. McIntosh returned to practice on Tuesday and put in a limited session. McIntosh could be activated from the reserve/non-football illness list over the next three weeks. (Dan Duggan)
