Giants Have Opened Extension Talks With Odell Beckham Jr.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that the Giants opened extension talks with WR Odell Beckham Jr. earlier in the week.

Raanan says that talks between the two parties are a promising sign that a deal could be finalized before the start of the regular season.

However, Giants owner John Mara said Wednesday in an interview with WFAN 660that it “depends on how reasonable they are.

This offseason, Beckham has done everything he could to best position himself for a long-term extension, but it remains to be seen whether the team will prioritize a new deal in the coming weeks.

The Giants will have the franchise tag at their disposal next year if they can’t get a deal done before then.

Beckham, 25, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract but the Giants picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Beckham stands to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career next year.

In 2017, Beckham Jr’s season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury. He caught 25 passes for 302 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of four games.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
