Giants Owner Confident That They’ll Re-Sign WR Victor Cruz

Giant’s owner John Mara made an appearance on NFL AM this morning and mentioned that he expects to reach an agreement with restricted free agent WR Victor Cruz at some point soon.

“I’m pretty confident that we’ll end up reaching a deal with (Cruz),” Mara said, via Ralph Vacchiano. “This is not that atypical a situation. Player contracts, particularly with star players like Victor, can tend to drag on from time to time. I think we’ll get it done. This is the right place for him to play He’s a star in this area. He’s an important part of our team, and I think we’ll eventually get a deal done.”

The Giants will have the ability to reduce Cruz’s restricted tender from $2.879 million to $630,000 on June 17, so there’s a chance they could try to have a deal in place before then.

“There’s communication, and it’s slow but steady, and I think at some point we’ll reach a deal,” said Mara.

New York reportedly made Cruz an offer close to $8 million annually that included guarantees in the range of $15-18 million. Clearly, the Giants will have to beat that offer and possibly push the amount of guaranteed money up to $25 million.
