Giants Place DT Johnathan Hankins On I.R. & Promote DT Montori Hughes

The Giants announced Tuesday that they’ve placed DT Johnathan Hankins  on season-ending injured reserve and promoted DT Montori Hughes off their practice squad.

Hankins, 23, is in the third year of his four-year, $4.03 million contract that included a $1.311 million signing bonus. He’ll make a base salary of $771,426 this season and another $954,639 in 2016.

Hankins had recorded 30 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass defense for the Giants’ defense over the course of nine games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 defensive tackle out of 70 qualifying players.

Nix, 24, was entering the second year of his four-year, $2,852,252 rookie contract when he was among the Texans’ final roster from this past weekend.

The Giants elected to claim him off of waivers, but he’s been on and off of their roster ever since.

Nix didn’t appear in a single game during the entire 2014 season for the Texans.
