Giants Place LB Uani Unga On Injured Reserve After Clearing Waivers

The New York Giants officially placed LB Uani Unga on the injured reserve list after he cleared waivers on Wednesday.

The Giants could still release him with an injury settlement in the coming weeks if they plan to move in a new direction at linebacker.

Unga, 29, wound up signing on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Brigham Young back in 2014. He’s in the third year of his three-year, $1.575 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season.

The Giants waived him with an injury designation back in May of last year and he spent the entire season on the team’s injured reserve list.

In 2015, Unga appeared in 13 games for the Giants and recorded 59 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and four passes defended. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 85 linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.
