Giants Place Supplemental CB Sam Beal On IR, Re-Sign CB Kenneth Durden

The New York Giants have placed supplemental CB Sam Beal on injured reserve Sunday and re-signed CB Kenneth Durden, according to Dan Duggan.

Giants GM Dave Gettleman confirmed Friday that Beal will undergo shoulder surgery and miss his rookie season after he got tangled up with a teammate during practice last week and his shoulder popped out.

It’s worth mentioning that Beal was dealing with a pre-existing shoulder issue.

Beal was considered by many draft evaluators to be the best Supplemental prospect since Josh Gordon was taken by the Browns back in 2012.

Beal, 21, was selected in the third round of this year’s Supplemental draft, which means they will lose their 2019 third-round pick. He signed a four-year, $4.08 million contract that included a $1,048,940 signing bonus.

Beal recorded 92 tackles, two tackles for a loss, two interceptions, 19 pass defenses and a forced fumble over the course of three seasons at Western Michigan and 32 games played.

Durden, 26, wound up signing on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Youngstown State back in 2016. He was, unfortunately, waived coming out of the preseason before later signing on to the Raiders’ practice squad at the start of the season.

The Raiders brought Durden back on a future/reserve contract last year but elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason. Durden signed on to the Titans’ practice squad before he was eventually cut loose.

The Giants signed Durden to a contract in June but elected to cut him loose after they drafted Beal.

Durden has yet to appear in an NFL game.
