Giants Placing S Landon Collins (Shoulder) On Injured Reserve

Update:

Josina Anderson reports that the Giants are placing S Landon Collins on injured reserve.

Giants HC Pat Shurmur announced Wednesday that S Landon Collins likely needs season-ending shoulder surgery.

“Landon Collins has a shoulder injury that will most likely require surgery,” Collins said. “It’s not final yet. We’ve been getting it evaluated for the past couple of days.”

The Giants will likely place Collins on injured reserve in the coming days.

Collins actually came up as a potential trade candidate before the deadline, and given that he’s in the final year of his rookie deal, it’s possible he could be playing elsewhere in 2019.

However, the Giants do have their franchise tag available.

Collins, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Giants back in 2015. He is in the final year of his four-year, $6.12 million rookie contract that included $4.459 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $1,269,621 for the 2018 season.

In 2018, Collins appeared in 12 games for the Giants and recorded 96 tackles, a forced fumble and four pass defenses.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.

  1. The article does not mention the type of injury Collins sustained to his shoulder. Collins did play the entire game against the Bears. When Collins was injured, it looked like a slight stinger if anything. Barkley’s injury looked worse, being his whole shoulder was taped up. No mention on that injury front.
So! Now the NYG have the Skins on Sunday. A team they should obviously “steam roll” in a blowout. Yet! Shurmur and Co. will find a WAY to lose this game as well. My guess is with no Collins, Peterson will rush for 150 plus yards and a couple of tds. And Señor Butt Fumble and Recovery will go pass happy as well. All while Manning will be his usual “deer in the headlights” self as Kerrigan and Co. wreak havoc.
On another note for a second. It’s amazing Mike McCarthy is looking for a new gig. And this useless NYG so called HC Putz Shurmur keeps his job. Hey Mara and Gettleman! get rid of Shurmur and sign McCarthy a.s.a.p. I know already, it will not happen. Because Shurmur is building a “new culture”. LOSING is a bad choice of culture. I believe I can speak for countless NYGs’ fans myself included, to the fact that a culture change is needed right now to the positive. And Mike McCarthy would be the first step. Remember McCarthy runs a 3-4 defense, so Bettcher could stay on board. It would be great to see McCarthy’s passing schemes combined with Barkley’s ground attack. Wishful thinking for positive I guess.
