Giants Plan To Tender C Brett Jones, Part Ways With C Weston Richburg

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports that the Giants plan to use a second-round tender on RFA C Brett Jones to retain him as their starting center while moving on from free-agent C Weston Richburg.

The second-round tender will cost New York $2.91 million for the 2018 season and they will be able to match any offer Jones receives from other teams.

Jones, 26, was selected in the second round of 2013 CFL draft by the Calgary Stampeders. In just two years with the Stampeders, Jones has won CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award (2013) and the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award (2014).

He signed on with the Giants back in 2015 and just finished a three-year, $1,575,000 deal. He took over for Richburg last season after he was placed on injured reserve.

In 2017, Jones appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 18 overall center out of 79 qualifiers.

Richburg, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Giants back in 2014. He is an unrestricted free agent after finishing a four-year, $4,877,346 contract.

He was placed on injured reserve back in November after missing time due to a lingering concussion injury.

In 2017, Richburg appeared in four games for the Giants.
