Giants Promote LB Deontae Skinner & Waive OL Shane McDermott

According to Art Stapleton, the Giants promote LB Deontae Skinner and waived OL Shane McDermott in a corresponding roster move.

Skinner, 25, signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State. He was on and off of the team’s practice squad and active roster for much of the 2014 season before New England signed him to a future/reserve deal in February of last year.

Unfortunately, the Patriots elected to waive him shortly after the draft. Skinner caught on with the Eagles a month later and returned to the team on a future/reserve contract this past January. However, Skinner was waived during the preseason.

Since then, he’s been on and off of the team’s practice squad.

In 2014, Skinner appeared in seven games for the Patriots and recorded 16 tackles and a sack.

McDermott, 24, originally signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in May of last year. He lasted just a few months in Dallas before he was cut and later signed to the Panthers’ practice squad.

The Giants signed him to a future/reserve contract this past January. However, he was once again cut loose coming out of the preseason and later signed to the team’s practice squad. McDermott had a brief stint with the Cowboys in October.

He has bounced on and off New York’s practice squad this season.

McDermott has yet to appear in an NFL game.
