Giants RB David Wilson Has Made “Significant Progress” Since Neck Surgery

Giants RB David Wilson met with doctors Wednesday to check on his recovery following an offseason neck surgery and hopefully receive medical clearance.

However, Mike Garafolo reported earlier in the day that Wilson did not receive clearance and is expected to meet with doctors again before the start of training camp.

Wilson is still hopeful that he’ll receive clearance by then and will be a go for the start of the regular season.

Giants team physician, Dr. Russell Warren, mentioned that Wilson has made “significant progress” following his neck surgery and is also optimistic about his status moving forward.

There has been significant progress and healing since David had the fusion,” said Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants’ team physician. “But the reality is it has only been four and one-half months since the surgery. We anticipate that when David is re-evaluated at the start of training camp he will be cleared at that point.”

It appears as though the Giants will head into training camp with Rashad Jennings and fourth-round pick Andre Williams as their top-two running backs.

Wilson, 22, was a first-round pick of the Giants back in 2012. He has struggled with ball security at times, which led to him being benched, but there is no question that has impressive ability when healthy.

We’ll have more regarding Wilson in the coming weeks.
