Giants RB Shane Vereen May Not Be Out For Season, Despite Announcement From Team

Update:

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Giants RB Shane Vereen may not actually be done for the season, despite the announcement from the team that mentioned he needed “season-ending surgery” for a triceps injury.

Garafolo adds that surgery on Vereen’s triceps is likely, but his recovery time is in the area of two months, which means he could be brought back from injured reserve at a later point.

The New York Giants announced Monday that RB Shane Vereen will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a triceps injury that will require surgery.

The Giants will place Vereen on injured reserve in the coming days to free up a roster spot.

Vereen, 27, signed a three-year, $12.35 million that included $5 million guaranteed with the Giants back in March of last year. He’s stands to make base salaries of $3.15 million over the final two years of the agreement.

Vereen’s 2016 season comes to an end with him appearing in three games and rushing for 147 yards on 31 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with eight receptions for 75 yards receiving and one touchdown.
