Giants Re-Sign DC Steve Spagnuolo

Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that the Giants have re-signed defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to a new contract after his unit put together an impressive 2016 season.

Raanan mentions that Spagnuolo’s contract had expired, which left him as a free agent. However, the Giants had no intention of letting him go after the job he did this past season.

Spagnuolo, 57, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles back in 1999. He spent eight years in Philadelphia before taking over as the Giants’ defensive coordinator in 2007.

After two years with the Giants, the Rams hired him as their head coach, but he lasted just three seasons in St. Louis. Spagnuolo bounced around a bit with the Saints and Ravens before returning to run the Giants defense in 2015.

In 2016, the Giants’ defense ranked No. 2 in points allowed, No. 10 in total yards allowed, No. 3 in rushing yards allowed and No. 23 in passing yards allowed.
