Giants Release QB Josh Freeman

The New York Giants announced Friday that they have released veteran QB Josh Freeman.

  • The Giants also claimed OT Rogers Gaines off of waivers from the Bears.

It appeared as though Freeman would be given an opportunity to compete for the Giants No. 2 job with Ryan Nassib during OTAs and training camp, but apparently that wasn’t the case.

Freeman, 26, signed a one-year contract worth $795,000 with the Giants in April after finding very little interest on the open market.

Shortly before the Giants added Freeman to their roster, the Bears worked him out, so there is a chance they could have some interest in him given that Jordan Palmer is currently their backup quarterback.

Last year, Freeman appeared in just four games and 42.9 percent of his passes for 761 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
