Giants Release RB Peyton Hillis

The New York Giants announced the release of RB Peyton Hillis on Wednesday.

The Giants are clearly looking to add a pass-catching running back to their backfield, and with Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams already on their roster, Hillis was clearly the odd-man-out.

Hillis, 29, still had one year remaining on his two-year, $1.8 million contract, which included a base salary of $870,000, a $50,000 roster bonus, and a $25,000 workout bonus.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Hillis will free up $945,000 in available cap space.

In 2014, Hillis ran for 115 yards on 26 carries (4.4 YPC) and caught 10 passes for 87 yards receiving over the course of nine games for the Giants.
