Jordan Raanan of ESPN is reporting that the Giants are also releasing veteran RB Rashad Jennings on Monday.

This comes after the news that the Giants cut long-time WR Victor Cruz.

By cutting Jennings now, they’re giving him an opportunity to find another opportunity before the start of free agency in March.

Jennings, 31, is a former seventh-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2009. He spent four years in Jacksonville before signing on with the Raiders in 2013. The Giants later signed him to a four-year, $10 million contract that included $2.98 million guaranteed and he was set to make a base salary of $2.48 million for the 2017 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $2.5 million of available cap space while creating $562,500 in dead money.

In 2016, Jennings appeared in 13 games and rushed for 593 yards on 181 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 35 receptions for 201 yards receiving and four total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 running back out of 62 qualifying players.
