Giants To Interview Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia, Steve Wilks & Eric Studesville

Adam Schefter reports that the Giants have submitted requests to interview Patriots’ DC Matt Patricia and OC Josh McDaniels for their head coach position.

  • Schefter adds that this could be where Patricia ultimately lands.
  • Mike Garafolo reports that the Giants have requested permission to interview Panthers DC Steve Wilks.
  • According to Mike Klis, the Giants requested permission to interview Broncos assistant HC/RBs coach Eric Studesville before he was fired Monday.
  • Ralph Vacchiano reports that Giants interim HC Steve Spagnuolo has been promised an interview.

Both coordinators figure to be hot commodities in the coming weeks, as they’ve already been tossed out as names to watch for a few head coach vacancies.

McDaniels, 41, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots as a personnel assistant back in 2001. He worked his way up to offensive coordinator in New England before he departed for the Broncos head-coaching job in 2009.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go very well for McDaniels with the Broncos and he was fired during his second year with the team.

After a brief stint with the Rams as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, McDaniels returned to the Patriots and has been running their offense ever since.

Patricia, 43, began his NFL coaching career as an offensive assistant for the Patriots back in 2004. He has held a number of position during his 14 years in New England including assistant offensive line coach, linebackers coach, and safeties coach before he was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2012.

This year, the Patriots’ defense ranks No. 29 in total allowed yards, No. 20 in rushing yards allowed and No. 30 in passing yards allowed and No. 5 in total points allowed.
