Giants Restructure Eli Manning’s Contract To Clear Cap Space

Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN reports that the Giants have cleared just under $7M of cap space by paying QB Eli Manning $9M up front.

The Giants were reportedly about $9M over the cap limit, and this move gets them much closer.  As with most Super Bowl winning teams, there are a good number of Giants who feel deserving of increased compensation and while they can’t all be retained, the Giants want to maneuver as best they can to retain their core.  They still have further restructuring to complete before doing any serious signing, but this is a huge step in the right direction.

The Giants likely now turn their attention to RB Brandon Jacobs, who they will need to restructure or cut.
