Giants Sign 10 Players To Futures Deals Including QB Keith Wenning & WR Kevin Norwood

Dan Duggan of NJ.com reports that the Giants have signed 10 players future/reserve contracts on Monday including:

  1. CB Michael Hunter
  2. WR Darius Powe
  3. RB Jacob Huesman
  4. QB Keith Wenning
  5. DE Jordan Williams
  6. DE Stansly Maponga
  7. WR Kevin Norwood
  8. CB Donte Deayon
  9. S Ryan Murphy
  10. OL Jon Halapio

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.

Wenning, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2014. He was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason during his rookie year but was later added to team’s practice squad.

Baltimore wound up signing Wenning to a future/reserve contract but was cut loose shortly after last year’s draft. The Bengals later signed him to a contract, only to cut him loose coming out of the preseason. Wenning was on and off of the Bengals’ active roster last year.

The Giants signed Wenning to their practice squad a few weeks ago.

Wenning has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Norwood, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2014. He was traded to the Panthers at the start of last season for a 2017 conditional seventh-round pick after Carolina lost Kelvin Benjamin for the season, due to a torn ACL.

The Panthers placed him on injured reserve coming out of the preseason and eventually waived him. He signed on with the Chargers a few weeks later.

Norwood was in the third year of his four-year, $2,640,108 rookie contract when he was waived by the Chargers in November. The Giants later signed him to their practice squad.

In 2015, Norwood was active for just one game but did not catch a single pass.
