Giants “Still In The Picture” For Free Agent OT Jake Long

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com writes that free agent OT Jake Long appears to be taking his time in determining where he’ll be playing this season.

According to Raanan, Long is “still in the picture” for the Giants following his recent visit with the team.

Giants GM Jerry Reese mentioned last week that they plan to “keep an eye on him” in the coming months.

Raanan expects Long to eventually sign on with a team, but notes that he probably isn’t in rush to sign with a team given that there are a number of teams who could use an offensive tackle. On top of that, Long is coming off of two major knee injuries in the past few years, so it makes sense for him to not push to get back on the field.

Long, 30, was released by the Rams back in March in a move that cleared $8 million in cap space for St. Louis.

Despite being among the best available free agent offensive tackles, there has been very little reported interest in him since free agency got underway back in March.

In 2014, Long was limited to appearing in seven games and playing a total of 449 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Long ultimately graded out as the No. 36 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players in 2014.

We have Long featured in our Top 25 – Best Available Free Agents list.
