Giants To Pursue Packers G Evan Dietrich-Smith?

Alex Marvez of Fox Sports reports that the Giants are “taking a look at C Evan Dietrich-Smith,” should he hit the open market and if the Giants elect to release C David Baas.

Dietrich-Smith, 28, proved to be one of the better centers in the league this season.  Green Bay has done a good job of acquiring quality depth on the offensive line, and re-signing Dietrich-Smith would finalize the rebuilding process.

The Giants offensive line has undergone changes as well, but with poorer results recently.  C David Baas missed most of last season due to injury, and is 32 years old, making his future with the team uncertain.

Further,  Bass carries a cap number of $8.225 million for 2014, and the Giants could save $1.775 million by releasing him.  That would result in a large amount of dead money, but the Giants may feel they will be better off moving on.

We have Dietrich-Smith at #45 in our 2014 Top 100 NFL Free Agents List.
