Giants Will Not Re-Sign TE Larry Donnell

Mike  Garafolo of NFL Media is reporting that the Giants will not be re-signing TE Larry Donnell, who will now test the free agent market in the coming weeks.

Donnell is in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so it appears as though the Giants plan to target other options at the position either in the free agent market for the draft.

New York could possibly target a high-end tight option in round 1 such as Alabama’s O.J. Howard or wait to the middle rounds for to get someone, considering that there’s actually depth at the position this year.

For what it’s worth, notable free agent options include: Martellus Bennett, Jack Doyle, Jared Cook, Gavin Escobar, Jermaine Gresham and Vernon Davis.

Donnell, 28, wound up signing on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Grambling State back in 2012. The Giants elected to bring Donnell back on a one-year, $1,671,000 restricted tender last year

In 2016, Donnell appeared in 14 games for the Giants and caught 15 passes for 92 yards receiving and one touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 227 total snaps last year to go along with a below-average rating.
