Giants WR Hakeem Nicks Expects To Be Back For Week 1

Hakeem Nicks insisted that he’ll be ready for the start of the season during conference call with reporters.

I don’t have any doubt,” said Nicks, per Mike Garafolo.

Nicks mentioned that both he and the Giants expect to approach the situation with caution to ensure that he doesn’t suffer a setback during his recovery. He also said that the team expects him to be out 12 weeks, which is much longer than initially believed, but he would still have a shot being ready for week 1.

New York will do their best to have Rueben Randle, Domenik Hixon, and Jerrel Jernigan should Nicks be forced to miss any amount of time.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that a person familiar with the Hakeem Nicks‘ fractured foot mentioned that the injury is “more like a 4-6 week injury.”

Nicks wound up fracturing his fifth metatarsal. He’ll undergo surgery some time on Friday, so the Giants should have a better idea of how long he’ll be out following the procedure.

This certainly opens the door for second-round pick Rueben Randle to step in and get some much needed reps with the first-team offense while Nicks is out. I doubt the Giants are panicking at this point, especially when you consider the number of season-ending injuries they suffered last year, before going on to win the Super Bowl.

The New York Giants have announced that the WR Hakeem Nicks has fractured his foot during OTAs and will end up missing the 12 weeks, per Mike Garafolo.

Nicks suffered the injury while running a route during the team’s second day of OTAs. Nicks is expected to undergo surgery some time tomorrow and will have a screw inserted into his foot.

If the estimates are accurate, Nicks will most likely miss half of the team’s training camp, but should be fine for preseason action, should they elect to play him at that point.

Nicks has dealt with multiple injuries to his lower-leg, so it is a little concerning that these type of injuries continue to pop up, but he’s certainly a big part of the Giants offensive attack. Thankfully for the Giants, they drafted Rueben Randle during this year’s draft.
