Giants WR Odell Beckham “Pretty Close” To Being Fully Cleared

On Tuesday, Giants HC Pat Shurmur told reporters (per Ralph Vacchiano) that while WR Odell Beckham is still not fully cleared to return from the ankle injury that ended his 2017 season, he’s is “pretty close.”

Beckham had been in attendance for offseason workouts up to this point, but was with the team on Tuesday. Shurmur did, however, say that Beckham made him aware that he wouldn’t be at the practice.

It will be interesting to see the Giants and Beckham get seriously involved in long-term extension talks this summer, given that he chose to be with the team for voluntary workouts.

The Giants will have the franchise tag at their disposal next year if they can’t get a deal done before then.

Beckham, 25, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract but the Giants picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Beckham stands to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career next year.

In 2017, Beckham Jr’s season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury. He caught 25 passes for 302 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of four games.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
