Giants & WR Victor Cruz Agree To Restructured Contract

Update:

Rand Getlin reports that the Giants and veteran WR Victor Cruz have reached an agreement on a restructured contract that will keep with the team for the 2016 season.

  • According to Getlin, the deal will convert some of his money from next year to incentives that can be made back based on his performance.
  • Getlin adds that Cruz’s 2017 and 2018 salaries are largely unaffected by this restructure.

Art Stapleton reports the Giants and WR Victor Cruz are working out the details of a restructured contract to keep him with the team in 2016.

  • Stapleton adds that it sounds “hopeful” that a deal will get done.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reported on Monday that the Giants informed Cruz that they will release him unless he agrees to a pay cut, so it appears that the two sides are reaching a middle ground.

Cruz has ended up on season-ending injured reserve the past two season, so there’s some question about his productivity moving forward.

Cruz, 29, was in the fourth year of his six-year, $45.879 million contract that included $15.625 million guaranteed and a $9.5 million signing bonus. He’ll make base salaries of $7.9 million (2016), $7.4 million (2017), and $8.4 million (2018) over the remainder of the agreement.

In 2014, Cruz caught 23 passes for 337 yards receiving and a touchdown for the Giants over the course of six games.
