Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that the Giants and WR/KR Dwayne Harris have agreed to a restructured contract in recent days that will reduce his 2017 base salary of $2.975 million by $500,000.
For his part, Harris receives $1.1 million of his contract fully guaranteed and the ability to earn back the $500,000 reduction and another $100,000 by reaching incentives included in the contract.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously reported that the Giants were looking to restructure Harris‘ contract after they signed veteran WR Brandon Marshall to a contract.
Harris, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2011. He spent four years in Dallas before signing a five-year, $17.5 million contract that included $7.1 million guaranteed with the Giants in 2015.
Harris was set to make base salaries of $3.225 million over the remaining two years of the agreement.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Harris would have free up $1.4 million of available cap space while creating $2.4 million in dead money.
In 2016, Harris appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and caught just a single pass for 13 yards and a touchdown. He also contributed 533 kick return yards and 170 punt return yards.
