“Good Chance” 49ers Hire Either Terry McDonough Or George Paton As GM

Matt Maiocco, citing a source close to the 49ers’ GM search, reports that there’s a “good chance” the team will hire Cardinals VP of player personnel Terry McDonough or Vikings assistant GM George Paton as their next general manager.

However, Maiocco’s source added: “It’s not a lock.”

Both McDonough and Paton are scheduled to meet with the 49ers and Falcons OC Kyle Shahanan this weekend. Although, the possibility still exists that the 49ers could re-open their GM search to other candidates, depending on how the meetings go.

Neither McDonough or Paton has worked with Shanahan and Maiocco reports that Shanahan has minimal or no history with either of them.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there’s a “lot of scuttlebutt” among personnel executives at the Senior Bowl that former Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik could end up with the 49ers.

La Canfora doesn’t say what position Dominik is or could be considered for.

Maiocco confirms that Dominik has been discussed as an option for the 49ers but no official interview has been scheduled.

Paton just finished interviewing for the Colts’ GM position, so it’s possible there could be competition to hire him.

We’ll have more regarding the 49ers’ GM search as the news is available.
