According to Mike Klis of 9 News, there’s a “good chance” the Broncos will start rookie QB Paxton Lynch in their Week 17 match up against the Raiders, even though HC Gary Kubiak didn’t commit to either Trevor Siemian or Lynch during his Monday press conference.
“As far as playing, I’d like to sit here and say we’ll play everybody (against the Raiders),’’ Kubiak said. “I’ll make a decision on Paxton. We’ll see. We got home at 3:30 in the morning, I haven’t made any decisions today.’’
Klis believes Lynch has to be the starter, given that not starting him in a meaningless game would imply they may have made a mistake using a first-round pick on him earlier in the year.
Beyond that, all of the other quarterbacks taken in the first round are playing for their respective teams. Klis adds that this isn’t an indictment of Siemain, who is currently dealing with some injuries he sustained over the course of the season.
Lynch, 22, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick after the Broncos traded up from No. 31 overall to get their quarterback of the future. He signed a four-year, $9.4 million contract that includes $7.88 guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season.
In 2016, Lynch has completed 49-of-83passes (59 percent) for 497 yards to go along with two touchdowns and an interception for the Broncos over the course of three games.
