“Good Chance” Drew Brees Starts Week 3’s Game

Saints HC Sean Payton told the Charlotte media during a conference call on Thursday that there’s a “good chance” QB Drew Brees plays in Sunday’s game against the Panthers, per Katherine Terrell.

Payton said this was based off of the recent optimism from Brees’ regarding how his injured shoulder feels. Although, Brees is still considered day to day.

Payton added  that Brees will not go all the way to Sunday without throwing, per Terrell.

Following last weekend’s game, Brees said he shoulder injury was clearly responsible for some of the throws he missed. However, he got good news as an MRI reportedly revealed that he has a bruised rotator cuff, and not a tear.

New Orleans has Luke McCown as their No. 2 quarterback along with rookie Garrett Grayson in the event that Brees is unable to go.

Brees, 36, has two years remaining on his five-year, $100 million contract that included $40 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $18.75 million and $19.75 million over the next two years.

This season, Brees has thrown for 610 yards while completing 62.8 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding Brees’ Week 3 status as the news is available.
