Panthers Finalizing Deal With Norv Turner To Be New Offensive Coordinator

According to Jason La Canfora, it sounds like there’s a “very good chanceNorv Turner is hired as the Panthers next offensive coordinator. The two parties are reportedly meeting Wednesday there’s “lots of mutual interest” in a potential deal.

Ian Rapoport reported last night that Turner is Ron Rivera‘s “top choice” to join his staff and they were expected to interview him for the job.

Following the 2016 season, Turner said he wanted to get back into coaching, but he wound up sitting out the entire 2017 season.

Some issues that could work against Turner is the fact that he’s 65 and abruptly stepped down as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator during the 2016 season.

On Tuesday, the Panthers announced that they’ve fired offensive coordinator Mike Shula and QBs coach Ken Dorsey (NFLTR).

Other candidates that were tossed out for the Panthers’ job include Ron Turner, former Browns HC Rob Chudzinski and former Broncos coordinator Mike McCoy.

Turner, 65, began his NFL coaching career back in 19185 with the Rams as their WRs coach. He has worked for several teams over the years including the Cowboys, Redskins, Chargers, Dolphins, Raiders, 49ers, and Browns before the Vikings hired him as their offensive coordinator back in 2014.

The Vikings ranked No. 31 in yards per game, No. 28 in points passing yards per game, No. 31 in rushing yards per game and No. 23 in points per game this season at the time he resigned in 2016.

We’ll have more regarding the Panthers and Turner as the news is available.
